Choosing Your words Wisely
Not all Information is fit to print, or to share in any form.
This weeks scripture is from the book of Proverbs , I spend a lot of time in Proverbs and love how it has something to say about almost any situation or problem. If you haven’t spent a lot of time reading this book I can’t recommend it enough. It is a good place to have an in depth Bible study.
Today’s scripture is about choosing your words wisely and knowing when to keep them to yourself.
So much information and misinformation is going around, especially right now. Much is being said to provoke and panic on so many topics from disease to politics and race. I believe this verse is good advice to follow at all times but especially right now.
What is a prudent man?
A prudent man is a wise person who uses good judgment in what they do. This includes everything they say, not just their actions. It is a way to live and one that God calls us to many times in the book of Proverbs.
Put it into practice
I believe it would be a good idea if we all took a moment to stop and think and be prudent before we speak to each other. I know when you are angry or upset this is so hard to do, however it is in those moments that we need to practice this the most.
Your measuring stick
Consider this before you speak. Is what you want to say truth or opinion, fact or speculation. Is what you want to say to inform or to hurt. Or do you just want to stir the pot.
Consider whether what you have to say will do more harm than good and ultimately whether it is something you should share or keep to yourself.
I know some may interpret this scripture to mean (don’t gossip), but the bible has plenty of verses about the ills of gossip. I think this one is meant to go beyond ideal gossip and teach us how to use self control. This verse is here to remind us that not all information should be shared.
