How to make this cute I Love You Pillow just in time for Valentin’s Day.
Just in time for the holiday of Love lets make this St. Valentine’s Day Pillow. This craft is quick, easy, and a great decoration.
What You Need To Get Started
This is a good scrap buster project. Besides the backing for your pillow, fabric requirements are minimal.
You will need to cut 2 1/2 in strips to start with, part of a jelly roll will work if you have one on hand like I used or a group of fat quarters. As long as you have 3 or more colors for the background, 1 fabric for the (U) the (I) and 2 fabrics for the heart you are good to go.
You will also need 1/2 yard of fabric for the back, some iron on interfacing, and a bag of poly-fill to complete this project.
Follow the diagram below to sub cut what you need from each fabric or group of fabrics. Arrange your fabric layout before sewing to make sure you have placement correct and like what you see.
To start you will assemble the pieces in rows to form the background along with the I and U.
When it comes to assembling these rows I suggest ironing the seams in different directions on every other row. Doing this will make nesting the seams together easier.
After you have you background together its time to work on the heart.
You can sew the 2 color strips together and cut those into 2 1/2 in sections.
You will want to put these pieces together in a checker board pattern.
Fuse the Iron on interfacing to the back of checker board fabric and cut out a large heart.
Now It All Comes Together
Following the directions for the iron on interfacing you chose to use to fuse your heart in place. Placement should be between the I and the U centering it as best you can.
Next you will need to applique or stitch your heart down, I used a blanket stitch to secure my heart to my Valentine’s Pillow, but you can use any decorative stitch you want.
You will need to measure your pillow top and cut a piece of fabric from your backing material the same size. Sew them right sides together, leaving about a 4 in space on one side to turn your pillow with.
It is always a good idea to trim the corners as you can see in the pic above, this reduces bulk when you turn it right sides out.
I personally like a firm pillow but you can stuff it as much or as little as you want.
The final touch is to sew up the opening, I recommend an invisible stitch, but that is up to you.
I hope you enjoyed this tutorial and create this cute pillow for yourself, If you do leave a picture i n the comments I would love to see your version.
