How to make Bon-Bon or candy bar turkeys.
Making these have been a lot of fun for me and a trip down memory lane.
When I was a kid our church’s kids group would make these treats and give them to the residents at the towns nursing home. Of course plenty of the cookies and bon-bons, to say nothing of the candy corn ended up in us as apposed to those at the nursing home. We had a blast making them. Some years we made up to 80 turkeys.
Looking back I’m not sure these were the best things to be bringing to a bunch of elderly people with diabetes and other health issues. But, that being said we had a lot of fun as a group making them and the residents seemed to enjoy them when we brought them there.
These are a wonderful family or group project that you can share. So here is what you need
Supplies
- Bon-Bons or small candy bars either will work pick what you like.
- Cookies, again these are up to you almost any kind of cookie will work
- candy corn
- icing (homemade or store bought)
- knife
- small plastic bag or pastry bag
- candy eyes ( you can find these in the cake decorating area)
First you need a clean work space to start. Put some icing in either the pastry bag with a small tip or a plastic bag with a tiny corner cut out.
Second you need to attach your bon-bon to your first cookie with a bit of icing. You can also cut one end of a small candy bar flat and use it for the body.
Next you want to add feet , you do this by cutting off the yellow ends from 2 candy corns.
After the feet are on you can add the beak and eyes to your bird this can be done with all or only part of a candy corn, and the candy eyes or just a dot of icing.
Last but not least is the tail. I like to draw scallops on the cookie for feathers but this is up to you, you can decorate the Turkey as much or as little as you want.
Now your Turkey or Turkeys are done. Enjoy
