Scarecrow craft for kids
This is a fun fall craft project for kids, Now that Fall is here it’s time to decorate with fall leaves, scarecrows, pumpkins, and turkeys Yeah.
This is an easy craft for kids ages 6 and up. Now I will be honest and admit that my 12 year old nephew felt that he was to old to make the scarecrow but his younger sister had fun with hers.
What You Need
- paper plates
- tan paint or crayons
- googly eyes
- orange paint
- black marker
- yellow paper
- 6 in burlap ribbon
- some skinny fall ribbon
- glue
- stapler and staples
The first thing you need to do is paint and or color the plate, I painted mine tan my niece went with purple to each their own.
Next you will need to give your scarecrow a face, a simple smile and an orange triangle in the middle for a nose. I like to add a few black lines to the nose ( no reason I just think it looks good).
Next you can add some googly eyes or draw some if you want, FYI colored googly eyes look very creepy on this face. I also used a light pink crayon to give my guy some blush.
Now we are ready to add the straw hair. I cut strips of yellow paper about 1/2 in thick the width of the paper. I also put mine the a crinkle machine but this optional. Glue the strips to the side and a few short ones on top at various lengths
The last and best part to me is the hat. First you will need to cut a piece of burlap 10 in long and fold it in half so it is 5×6 in . you will staple this to the top of the scarecrow.
Next you will need to cut another 10 in piece of burlp ad fold it length wise for the brim.
staple this to the top of the head with the fold facing up.
Now you can embellish your scarecrow however you want. I cut some skinny ribbon and glued it down for a hat band and a bow at his neck or at least where his neck would be if he had one.
If you have really young kids you can always have the paper already cut as well as the burlap and the face already painted.
