So first of lets talk about what is a Craft Show. Basically a craft show or craft fair is organized by a person or group in a particular location where booth spaces are sold to vendors for these vendors to sell their wares from.
Craft shows can be very lucrative and a great way to sell your homemade goods, but even if you don’t make crafts to sell, a booth at a craft show can still be a good way to make money.
Keep in mind when reading these ideas every crafts show has rules about what vendors can sell or do so make sure to check these carefully before you sign up for a booth.
- Promote your business, This works great if you have a home based business or if you are a Photographer. Having a booth and giving out cards can be a good way to increase your customer reach. Now this will not make you money right away , but has the potential to bring you work later.
2. Selling Items someone else made.
It is possible to sell items you get wholesale like candles, signs, dolls or purses. You might even work for a company that has you sell door to door or at home parties, this could be makeup, jewelry , and even kitchen items. It is not unheard of for individuals who sell these items to set up a booth at a local craft show instead of having a house party.
3. Face Painting
This is one of my favorite things to do a summer craft shows, but any craft show where you are likely to have a lot of kids will be ideal for this type of booth. It is important to do a little research into the craft show or fair you want to do. I always try to find someone who has done the craft show before and can give me an idea of the customers I may have. Now You might say that this takes a lot of skill or talent to do. Face painting is not that hard, and there are a lot of great tutorials out there to help a newbie. With a little practice and a good way with kids almost anyone can become a face painter.
4. Balloon Animals
This is a lot of fun and can allow you to release your inner circus clown, (the cute not creepy kind). Making and selling balloons animals can go great at a craft show or fair with a lot of kids. Basic balloon animals are pretty easy to master and once you get those down the more elaborate creations will get easier to do. This is something almost anyone can do with just a little practice and is one of the cheapest financially to get into. You can dress up or not, the key to this being successful is to have a fun and friendly attitude.
5. Photo Booth
This last one is pretty easy to set up but can cost a bit to start. You can rent a machine to take and print the pics or take them yourself and have a printer on hand (make sure to have plenty of paper and ink). If you can find or create a few cute backdrops and have some fun props on hand this type of booth can do well in family friendly venues.
Okay so there you have it 5 ideas for booths at a craft show even if you don’t make crafts. Like i said earlier every craft show will have its own set of rules so always make sure that whatever booth you want to have complies with those. It is also important to remember that every craft show is different, what works at one will not necessarily work well at another. Do some research look into how many attended the previous year and what demographic was seen the most. This info can really help you make a good decision as to what kind of booth to do and if a craft show is even worth doing.
