How To Make The Perfect Yo-Yo

I love to make fabric Yo-Yo’s they quick easy and a great way to embellish different things.

Yo-Yo’s are one of the easiest things in the world to make, all you need is some fabric and a needle and thread.

There are tools out there to make Yo-Yo’s easier to make, but unless you have trouble holding onto something small you really don’t need them.

To start you need some fabric cut in a circle.

The circle doesn’t need to be perfect. I like to trace around cup lids or dvd’s anything that helps me draw the right size circle for what I want to make.

Next you need to cut it out.

After you have your circle cut out , take your needle and thread and turning the edge over about a quarter inch start to make stitches around your Yo-Yo.

The important part to making a perfect Yo-Yo,you need to keep the stitches close to the edge of the fold .

If you stitch like the one above away from the fold the Yo-Yo will not lay right, as you will see in the next pic. After you have stitched all the way around pull the thread and gather the fabric together tie it of with a knot.

When you gather your thread and pull it tight to create your Yo-Yo if you stitch close to the fold it will look much nicer.

If you want to make Yo-Yo leaves you will need to fold your fabric in half and them in half again before you stitch the edge, you will not need to turn this edge over.

Once you gather and tie it off with a knot, it will look like a leaf.

These are great as embellishments on handmade items, cloths, or even on a hair pin.
